Azzedine Alaïa was born in the 1940s in Tunisia. When he started designing he displayed a unique approach to fashion. He was different he didn't bow down to the rules applied at the time. His collection would come out when HE wanted them too instead of responding to the seasonal guidelines of the fashion industry. Alaïa was successful due to his signature body-con silhouettes and his talent for producing discreet luxury. He created seductive elegance.

In 1957 when Alaïa was in paris he worked for Christian Dior, Guy Laroche, Thierry Mugler. The transparence in the red and black here shows a type of delicate sexiness. The talent of this designer was recognised in 1984 when he was named best designer of the year.

This breathtaking dress shows the trend Alaïa created : the stretchy body-conscious silhouette. The women's body inspired his designs not the other way around.

Alaïa spoke this " My dress on- thats a beautiful decoration"

"I make clothes women make fashion"

Something to live by don't you think ?

" My obsession is to make women beautiful. When you create with that in mind, things can't go out of fashion"
